According to recent media reports, the PTA Chairman highlighted that telecom companies in Pakistan currently utilise 265 MHz of spectrum.
To bolster the upcoming 5G rollout, the PTA plans to release an additional 567 MHz of spectrum.
This expansion will provide the necessary bandwidth for next-generation technology, ensuring superior service quality for consumers and paving the way for a more connected Pakistan.
Hafeez Rahman, a key official, noted a significant difference in spectrum pricing between countries, pointing out that Saudi Arabia sold its spectrum at $90,000 per MHz, while Pakistan’s 4G spectrum was priced at $29 million per MHz.
By keeping spectrum prices lower, the PTA aims to make high-quality services more accessible to local consumers, reflecting its dedication to the digital growth of the nation.
In a related update, the PTA Chairman assured that the restoration of the submarine cable, which is crucial for the nation’s internet infrastructure, is progressing well and is expected to be completed by August 27.
Once restored, internet services across Pakistan are anticipated to improve significantly, with no further disruptions expected, thus enhancing the overall user experience.
