Ratan Tata, the renowned Indian Business Tycoon and the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons has passed away at the age of 86 in Mumbai.
According to Indian media reports, Tata took his last breath on Wednesday in a Mumbai hospital, where he had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit for some time.
Tata’s legacy transcends beyond business, extending into his remarkable philanthropic contributions. He became the chairman of Tata Sons in 1991, holding the position until 2012. Under his leadership, Tata Group witnessed unprecedented global expansion, becoming a household name worldwide.
One of his most notable achievements was overseeing Tata Motors‘ launch of the world’s cheapest car, a move that showcased his innovative approach to accessible products for the masses.
Even after retiring in 2012, he was appointed chairman emeritus of Tata Sons and several of the group’s key companies, including Tata Motors and Tata Steel, continuing to influence the company’s direction.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over Ratan Tata‘s passing. In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Modi highlighted Tata’s steadfast leadership, acknowledging his pivotal role in strengthening one of India’s oldest and most respected business empires.
