In a historic moment for English cricket, Joe Root has surpassed former captain Alastair Cook to become the highest run-scorer for England in Test matches.
During the third day of the first Test match against Pakistan in Multan, Root scored his 35th century, cementing his place at the top of England’s run charts.
Root’s remarkable achievement came after a stellar performance that saw him overtake Cook’s record, which had stood for several years.
Cook, a left-handed batsman, accumulated 12,472 runs over 161 matches between 2006 and 2018, with an impressive average of 45.35, including 33 centuries and 57 half-centuries.
Right-handed Root, now ranked fifth among the top Test run-scorers globally, made his debut in Nagpur, India, in December 2012, where he scored 73 runs in the first innings and an unbeaten 20 in the second.
With 147 Test matches under his belt as of now, Root has his sights set on the milestone of 13,000 Test runs.
Born on December 30, 1990, in Yorkshire, Joseph Edward Root has etched his name in cricket history, proving his talent and consistency over a decade-long career.
His journey from a promising young cricketer to a record-breaking batsman continues to inspire aspiring players worldwide.
